Dry Skin

Your Beauty Gossip

Characteristics of Dry Skin
Dry skin can feel tight, look dull and grey, it's flakey mainly around the nose area and makes you feel older then we are with tiny fine lines. The cause for dry skin is the breakdown of oils in the skin's natural protective barrier allowing water to evaporate, allowing UV rays to penetrate deeper into the skin that is already dehydrated increasing sun damage that's causing the skin to naturally wrinkle. Cold weather and central heating are the main causes that can damage this protective barrier but also it can be down to genetics.
Its a startling fact that cosmetics companies sell more moisturizers in January than in any other month.

Care for Dry Skin
Choosing creamy or milky cleanser that do not contain alcohol is the first step in effectively caring for dry skin, stay miles away from soap unless it is glycerine based one. Your cleanser should be enriched with moisturising  ingredients that will leave a fine film to help boos protection and put moisture back in to your skin.

Exfoliating is the second step you need to take as dry skin is slow in cell renewal process, so it is important to remove dead skin cells which makes the skin look dull and gray. Try a tailored fit home care programme of cleansers, exfoliators and masks with alpha-hydroxyl acids every day for a week that help strip away the dead skin and speed up cell renewal. Use a gentle facial scrub in between treatments to help maintain as to mush alph-hydroxyl acid can often be too harsh on the skin.

Moisturizers for dry skin should be a rich cream with both humectants and emollients hydration ingredients. Humectants ingredients are hyaluronic acid, glycerine or sorbitol, these ingredients attract moisture to the skin, while lactic acid, collagen, petrolatum and lanolin emollients ingredients help reinforce that protective barrier. Other ingredients to look out for in a good moisturizer and/or serums are the age-fighting ones like vitamin A, vitamin C, coenzyme Q10, kinetin and copper. Also choosing a moisturizer that is high in water will also help the skin look and feel hydrated, apply at least twice daily /or more if your skin still feels dry and tight.

Treat yourself to a facial once in awhile or every month if your pocket will allow. Not only do you feel pampered and relaxed but the gentle message your therapist gives you, will not only help and stimulate blood circulation for improved muscle tone but will also give your skin a bright glow.

Do you suffer from dry skin? can you recommend a good product or facial
that has helped you achieve a healthy glow.
